The winter of 1999 was relatively mild and rainfall in spring was fully adequate. The summer was hot from the end of July until the end of August. Between August 15th and 30th, with veraison completed, daytime temperatures never dropped below 28 degrees Celtius. Some rain at the beginning of September assisted the ripening of the grapes.
